East Dulwich Plastic Bag Free Day

Saturday 12th September 2009

A range of activities took place along Lordship Lane on the 12th of September as part of the first International Plastic Bag Free Day.

Marilyn Donahue-Schiller sewed 'Morsbags' outside Health Matters. These are reusable bags made from recycled fabrics and given away for free. For more info on Morsbags see: http://www.morsbags.com/

Pia Randall Goddard from The Skip Sisters made handbags and purses from recycled plastic carrier bags in front of Roullier White. Veolia (Southwark Council’s domestic waste management contractor) gave away free jute bags and recycling information outside Somerfield Supermarket.

Southwark Council promoted the Plastic bag free day with the help of Southwark’s Young Advisors distributing posters to the local traders. The Suburban Pirates, local musicians, who wrote the East Dulwich SNUB bag song, promoted their new single about SNUB’s latest project (collecting local restaurants' food waste and turning it back into compost).
